On the very first day of the First Commitment Period of the Kyoto Protocol, our reporter was out checking on progress.
The response on Day One is remarkable. Many shops and banks are closed, others opening only for a few hours in the day. Government offices are also shut. The roads are quiet. Most folk are resting quietly at home. This coordinated muting of economic activity has meant that emissions are down heavily.
Meanwhile the snow has fallen steadily all day.
